Gold standard guy?

So here is a unique man to put into the mix for the 2008 election.

His name is Ron Paul, a canidate from Texas. Does he sound like a Conservative or a Liberal?

  • He is against the War in Iraq whether it was initiated legally or illegally(happened illegally if you need to be refreshed)
  • he considers himself a constitutionalist, against the "Neo-conservatives" which make up most of the Bush administration
  • admits the administrations economic interests
  • is a veteran
  • want to bring the troops home now
  • says he is sick of spending on "war and welfare"
  • is against NAFTA
  • supportive of any voluntary contracts(including, gay-marriage, prostitution)
  • believes in the right to bear arms
  • thinks capitalism is the philosophy of a true humanitarian
  • against the EPA
  • thinks green house gas estimates are overblown
  • would like to eliminate department of education, dept energy, dept commerce, and eventually health and human services

I don't know if I would vote for him but he is an interesting guy, kind of reminds me of Jesse Ventura on some of his stances and his philosophies. You can try to guess his political affiliation, but your going to have to watch the video to find out.

Why wouldn't you vote for him? From the video and what you say in your post, he seems like an honest guy who is on the right side of almost all the issues.

Well, he has some great ideas, but a lot of them would be tough to implement without some kind of transition. He understands the need for a transition from a dependence on Big government. But he did not describe this transition in detail and if he were to become president, we wouldn't be governed under his ideal, but under his big transition. There are few Republicans and Democrats I would support, but I don't believe he is in the "inner circle" of the Republicans or Neo-Conservatives. He is more of a Libertarian.
